Dibrugarh Authorities Ensure Peaceful and Secure Chhath Puja Festivities
25 Oct
Summary
- Extensive preparations underway at Brahmaputra riverbanks for Chhath Puja
- Restrictions on DJ music and firecrackers to prevent overcrowding and noise
- Deployment of NDRF, SDRF, and lifeguards to monitor riverfront and handle emergencies
As thousands of devotees prepare to gather along the Brahmaputra riverbanks in Dibrugarh for the upcoming Chhath Puja on October 27, the district administration is taking extensive measures to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations.
Extensive preparations are underway at the approved ghats (riverbank steps) along the Brahmaputra, with workers engaged in cleaning, installing safety infrastructure, and illuminating the sacred sites. The authorities have imposed several restrictions this year to prevent overcrowding and sound pollution, including a complete ban on the use of DJ music and firecrackers near the puja sites. Only devotional songs will be allowed within permissible sound limits.
To ensure the safety and well-being of the devotees, the district administration has deployed NDRF and SDRF personnel along with lifeguards to monitor the riverfront and tackle any emergencies. The health department will also set up temporary medical camps and emergency response teams at the major ghats.
The Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation and APDCL are responsible for lighting and electrification at the ghats to ensure adequate illumination during the early morning and evening rituals. The PWD has been tasked with erecting safety barricades and leveling the riverbanks for safe access.
The district administration is fully committed to making the Chhath Puja festivities in Dibrugarh organized and hazard-free, with all departments and agencies working in coordination to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration.
