Diaspora Durga Puja Celebrations Adapt to Weekday Schedules

As of September 26th, 2025, several diaspora organizers across the globe are adapting their Durga Puja celebrations to accommodate weekday schedules. While the main Puja dates according to the almanac fall on working days from September 28th to October 2nd, some organizers are advancing their festivities to the upcoming weekend.

Sujan's Puja in Dublin, Ireland, which is recognized as the oldest Durga Puja in the country, has decided to celebrate their event next weekend, October 3rd to 5th, "for the sake of convenience." The organizers explain that this decision was made to ensure maximum participation from the Indian community living in and around Dublin.

Similarly, Alapon, a Bengali cultural group in Fort Mill, South Carolina, USA, is also observing Durga Puja next weekend. The group, which debuted last year with a theme of gender equality, believes in the concept of Devi Shakti (woman power) and strives to break the caste barrier, welcoming everyone to participate in the auspicious event.

These adjustments in Durga Puja schedules reflect the efforts of diaspora organizers to balance the cultural significance of the festival with the practical needs of their communities, ensuring that as many people as possible can come together to celebrate this vibrant and meaningful tradition.
