Summary
- Brisbane woman spends thousands searching for her lost dog
- Hired a pet detective, a former police officer, to aid the search
- Deployed thermal drones to scan bushland for any sign of the dog

In October 2024, a Brisbane woman named Pru Gillett was devastated when her rare British Cream dachshund, Luna, escaped from her home during a hailstorm. For the past year, Gillett has been pouring thousands of dollars and immense effort into the search for her beloved pet.
Gillett has taken time off work, enlisted hundreds of volunteers, and even hired a pet detective, a former police officer, to aid in the search. The detective does not believe Luna was stolen, despite her hefty $5,500 price tag. Instead, they suspect the timid dog may be hiding in dense bushland near creeks and parks in the area.
To aid the search, Gillett has deployed cutting-edge thermal drones equipped with sensitive cameras to scan the surrounding scrub and forest areas. The drone searches have covered a radius of up to 3.5 kilometers from Gillett's father's house. Gillett has also offered a $5,000 reward for Luna's safe return and continues to monitor social media and check with local authorities daily.
The ordeal has drawn comparisons to the survival story of another miniature dachshund, Valerie, who was found alive on Kangaroo Island after being missing for 540 days. Gillett remains hopeful that her beloved Luna will be found safe and sound.
