East Yorkshire's Cottingham is preparing to host its very first Pride festival, scheduled to take place between July 30 and August 2. This significant event aims to foster a sense of inclusion for the village's LGBTQ+ community.
The festival will commence on July 30 with a village market on King Street, featuring a Pride fire engine and merchandise. The primary celebration is slated for August 1 at the Cross Keys pub, running from 12:00 to 18:00 BST, offering music, stalls, and information. Kristoffs Cafe Bar and Restaurant will also host a garden party, while Zion URC Church plans a Pride service on Sunday.
Organizers are focusing on making Cottingham a welcoming village by encouraging shop front decorations, rather than a large-scale march. The inaugural event is self-funded, and there is a hope for future years to secure additional funding to expand the festival's offerings.
