100th Birthday Tree Dedication Blooms in Cornwall

A special tribute marked Sylvia Weatherhead's milestone 100th birthday, with her family dedicating a grand coastal redwood tree in her honor at Trebah Garden in Cornwall. The chosen redwood, estimated to be 150 years old, stands as a spectacular giant within the 26-acre botanical site.

Mrs. Weatherhead, who celebrated her centenary on November 7th, has a long-standing connection to the gardens, having become a life member with her late husband Tom after moving to the area in 1982. She fondly recalled their regular visits, appreciating the garden's atmosphere and the inspiration it provided for their own garden.

Reflecting on reaching 100 years, Mrs. Weatherhead shared her secrets to a long life, citing "good genes, keeping moving, drinking plenty of water, and keeping interested in life." The head gardener praised the family's long-standing support and noted the fitting connection between Sylvia's remarkable century and the ancient redwood.
