University researcher Jacqui Rix and her corgi, Scrumpy, are undertaking a significant 630-mile walk along the south coast of England. This poignant journey is dedicated to the memory of her late husband, George, who died from prostate cancer last year. The pair are fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK and Prostate Cancer Services.
Scrumpy, a Welsh Pembroke Corgi, has a special connection to George and will accompany Rix on the South West Coast Path. Due to Scrumpy's inclination for comfort, she will walk sections of the route and be carried in a pram or backpack when needed. Rix is inspired by her husband's own 630-mile trek in 2009, which raised £10,000. She hopes to emulate his fundraising success.
Jacqui Rix is currently engaged in an intensive eight-week training program, meticulously designed by Gemma Milligan from Portsmouth University's sport department. The university's support for Rix's endeavor has been substantial, providing training guidance and encouragement. Rix will also carry a crocheted likeness of George, mirroring his gesture of carrying a miniature toy on his own walk.
