A Ridgetown man, Isaac Davey, successfully concluded a "7 Days Contained, For the Kids" fundraiser held from October 19 to October 26. Davey lived in a portable storage container in Chatham for the entire week.
The primary goal was to raise funds for the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent. The community's generosity was overwhelming, with the campaign surpassing its $12,000 target.
As donations reached specific milestones, items were removed from the container, including Davey's bed on Friday. This led to him sleeping on the floor with only a sleeping bag for the final nights.
Despite the discomfort, Davey expressed his gratitude and highlighted the importance of the center's services. The funds raised will directly benefit children and youth by supporting recreational activities and sports equipment. The foundation also aids families in accessing services beyond government funding.
Organizers are considering making the event an annual fundraiser and exploring expansions to include other charities, given its success.
