Summer Holidays Cheaper: Middle East Fears Drop Dubai Prices

Family package holidays to destinations like Dubai and Egypt are now more affordable this summer compared to last year, as tour operators reduce prices to attract travelers. This price decrease is largely due to concerns over the war in Iran, which has deterred many UK holidaymakers from traveling to countries near the conflict or through Middle Eastern airspace. Consequently, all-inclusive seven-night family stays in the UAE have seen a 25% price drop for August, while similar holidays in Egypt are 8% cheaper.

In contrast, the cost of package deals to popular European destinations like Spain, Portugal, and Greece has risen by 3-5%. For instance, an average seven-night all-inclusive family stay in Spain is up by 4% to £155 per person. This trend has led some families to consider alternative destinations or adjust their holiday plans. The Foreign Office has since dropped its travel advisory against Dubai, but warns the regional situation remains unpredictable.

Tour operators are also offering reduced prices for holidays to Morocco (down 6.5%), Tunisia (down 2.5%), and Turkey (down 1.6%). Bookings have reportedly picked up since a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran was signed, with a surge in last-minute Mediterranean trips and cruise bookings. Many holidaymakers are also opting for shorter trips, with eight to ten-night stays becoming more common than the traditional two weeks. Additionally, car hire costs have decreased, making it more economical than airport transfers for families.
