A group of cyclists will embark on a 170-mile journey from Ludlow, Shropshire, to Arsenal's Emirates stadium in London, dedicating the ride to the memory of Alex Elder, an 18-year-old who passed away suddenly. The five-day event is scheduled to commence on August 5 and conclude on August 9, with the aim of raising vital funds for two children's hospitals.
The charity ride was conceived by family friend Charlotte Chubb, who was deeply moved by the tragic loss of Alex, a devoted Arsenal fan. The journey is planned to cover approximately 30 to 40 miles daily. Organizers hope to receive a warm welcome at the Emirates stadium, potentially including a pitch-side photo, provided there are no conflicting football fixtures. This endeavor serves as a poignant tribute to Alex and aims to garner community support for his grieving family.
Funds raised will benefit Birmingham Children's Hospital, where Alex received treatment for epilepsy and underwent brain surgery as a child, and Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, which previously provided care for Charlotte Chubb's daughter. Training for the challenging ride, including consistent weekend rides in various weather conditions, has been underway since February, demonstrating the commitment of participants to this meaningful cause.
