Castleton Farm, a significant historical property in Kentucky with ties to Ryanair co-founder Tony Ryan, is scheduled for auction this fall with a listing price of $57.5 million. This 951-acre estate, located outside Lexington, was originally purchased by U.S. Senator John Breckinridge in 1793.
Over the centuries, the farm transitioned into a prominent horse-breeding facility, notably under Wall Street financier James Keene and later Frances Dodge Johnson. Irish businessman Tony Ryan acquired the property in 2001 for $14 million, and his family undertook extensive renovations.
Ownership later transferred to his son, Shane Ryan, who has managed it as a horse-breeding farm. Shane Ryan is now seeking a new steward for the estate, citing increased time spent in Europe.
The property features 16 barns with 268 stalls, 10 homes, and a 13,500-square-foot Greek Revival mansion. Unique landmarks include a round stone tower and an equine cemetery. The auction is slated for October 28th as part of the Keeneland Championship Sale.
