Toboggan Thrills & DJ Sets: Cairngorm's New Direction
23 Apr
Summary
- Resort plans a nearly mile-long toboggan ride.
- DJ sets hosted at high altitude to draw visitors.
- Diversification aims to counter short, inconsistent snow seasons.

Cairngorm Mountain is broadening its appeal with ambitious plans, including the development of an almost mile-long toboggan ride. This new attraction is designed to significantly boost visitor numbers, particularly in light of increasingly short and inconsistent snowsports seasons due to climate change.
The resort recently hosted what it billed as the UK's highest DJ set at its Ptarmigan Top Station, drawing over 300 attendees. This event signals a strategic shift, aiming to transform the summit into a distinct venue for Scottish music, arts, and culture.
Consultants have highlighted that toboggan tracks are a proven method for European and North American ski resorts to enhance visitor engagement during less reliable winter conditions. The proposed track at Cairngorm is projected to become its most popular attraction, complementing existing facilities with a minimal environmental footprint and the possibility of disassembly.
While Scotland's snowsports centers experienced a strong winter in early 2026, past seasons have been challenging. Cairngorm Mountain, along with other resorts like Glenshee and Glencoe, noted great conditions recently, but the variability underscores the need for year-round attractions.
