On September 29, 2025, the United States will celebrate National Coffee Day, a day when coffee lovers can indulge in their favorite beverage at discounted or even free prices. According to a recent survey by the National Coffee Association, coffee consumption has risen by nearly 7% since 2020, with the average American now drinking 2.8 cups of coffee per day.
Despite the rising cost of coffee, which has seen a 40% increase in the average price of a pound of ground roast coffee over the past year, the popularity of the caffeinated drink remains undiminished. Major coffee chains like Dunkin', Krispy Kreme, and Starbucks are offering special deals and freebies to mark the occasion, including free medium hot or iced coffee with a purchase, free doughnuts, and bonus rewards points.
The survey also found that while grabbing coffee on the go remains popular, with 36% of coffee drinkers consuming the beverage away from home, the majority (82%) still enjoy their coffee at home. The National Coffee Association's president and CEO, Bill Murray, noted that coffee's "staying power as a beloved touchstone in Americans' daily lives is remarkable, and its contributions to our health and our economy give Americans even more 'grounds for celebration' this National Coffee Day and every day."
