Butlin's horror: Stains and filth ruin holiday
24 Jul
Summary
- Couple found suspected blood and faeces stains on bedding.
- Dried vomit was found on carpet, skirting board and wall.
- Butlin's initially offered a refund of only £41.50.

Colin and Paula Newton left a Butlin's resort in Skegness, Lincolnshire, after only one night due to the appalling condition of their accommodation. Arriving on June 26, the couple immediately noticed a strong smell of sickness in their room. They discovered suspected blood and faeces stains on the bedding, and dried vomit on the carpet, skirting board, and wall.
Despite staff attempting to clean the room, the issues persisted. Lumps of chocolate were found on the curtains, and the beds were stained with what appeared to be faeces and blood. The sofa cushions also contained crumbs and sticky sweets. The couple, who had booked a three-night stay for £249, decided to leave after just 16 hours.
Butlin's initially offered a refund of £41.50, representing half the accommodation cost, which was later increased to £83 as a gesture of goodwill. The couple rejected these offers due to the unhygienic conditions. Following further contact, Butlin's ultimately offered a full refund. The Newtons have stated they will never return and have lodged a complaint with East Lindsey District Council, which is now investigating the matter.
