Bride Honors Mother-in-Law with Touching Wedding Dress Reveal

In a heartwarming gesture, a bride recently surprised her mother-in-law by wearing her 1989 wedding dress for a special dance at her own wedding. Shelby Sacco Spinek, 28, enlisted the help of her husband Jake's "entire family" to execute the surprise for her mother-in-law, Rachel Spinek, 56, during their intimate backyard wedding in Rochester, Michigan on August 16th.

Shelby, who wore her own mother's wedding dress for the father-daughter dance, decided to also surprise Rachel by changing into her dress for the first dance with Jake. As Rachel has four sons and no daughters, Shelby knew this would be especially meaningful to her. "I wanted to surprise her, honor her and my father-in-law's love, and also show her how much I love her," Shelby explains.

The surprise was a resounding success, as Rachel was immediately overcome with emotion when she realized Shelby was wearing her own cherished gown. "She said she never thought she'd see anyone in her dress again and she thanked me for wearing it how she did. She said she loved her dress and it meant the world that I loved it the way she did and didn't change it," Shelby shares. Rachel then "hysterically cried for the next 20 minutes," touched by Shelby's thoughtful gesture.

The newlyweds went on to have their first dance before Shelby changed into a shorter dress for the remainder of the celebration. Rachel's wedding dress is now being cleaned and stored, with hopes that a future granddaughter may one day wear it.
