Saint Paul's and Saint Mary's churches in Binghamton have significantly surpassed their fundraising target, collecting over $20,000 to aid those facing hunger in South Sudan. The initiative, inspired by a documentary detailing the dire conditions, aimed to raise $10,000.
Father Arthur Krawczenko, pastor of both churches, expressed his surprise at the community's overwhelming response, which more than doubled the initial goal. Parish Council President Kathy Blodgett noted the unexpected success, emphasizing the importance of community support, especially during the Lenten season when the campaign began.
While Lent has ended, the churches are continuing their efforts to gather further donations for South Sudan. Those wishing to contribute can contact the Parish office for details on mailing checks or making in-person donations.
