Following the heartbreaking loss of their English bulldog, Bianca, on July 17, 2012, Beth and Howard Stern transformed their grief into a mission for animal welfare. This led to the creation of Bianca's Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, a substantial 14,000-square-foot rescue facility located in Port Washington, New York.
The state-of-the-art center operates on a cage-free model, a design choice aimed at significantly reducing animal stress and fostering greater socialization. Beyond adoption areas and a dedicated kitten facility, it is fully equipped for comprehensive feline care, including specialized medical services and behavioral support.
This initiative not only honors Bianca's memory but also expands the North Shore Animal League America's capacity to save lives. The facility can now accommodate more cats and kittens, thereby freeing up space in existing shelters for dogs and puppies, reinforcing a no-kill shelter commitment.
Beth Stern has further channeled this passion into a children's book, "Coco and Stephen, Together Forever," inspired by the bond between rescue animals. She expressed gratitude for dedicating her energy to animal rescue and welfare.
