Bengal Govt Employees Get More Holidays in 2026!

Government employees in West Bengal are scheduled to benefit from an increased number of holidays in 2026, with the total count rising to 53 days. This marks an increase from the 49 holidays observed in 2025, offering more opportunities for rest and personal activities throughout the year. The festive season will see an extended break during Durga Puja, spanning 12 days from October 15th.

Several holidays in 2026 are strategically placed to coincide with weekends or other public holidays, maximizing the benefit for employees. For instance, holidays like Swami Vivekananda's birthday and May Day fall on Mondays and Fridays, respectively, creating convenient long weekends. The government has also made compensatory arrangements, such as an additional day off for Saraswati Puja and Netaji's birthday.

While eight holidays will coincide with Sundays or other observances, impacting the overall holiday count on paper, the year is still set to offer a generous number of days off. Key festivities like Kali Puja and Chhath Puja will be observed, with offices closed for an extended period from November 9th to 16th, ensuring employees can participate fully in these significant cultural events.
