On September 25th, 2025, the Formula 1 community mourned the loss of a beloved canine companion. Roscoe, the English Bulldog who had been a constant presence alongside Lewis Hamilton for over a decade, passed away at the age of 12.
Just a few days prior, on September 22nd, Hamilton had shared the heartbreaking news that Roscoe had developed pneumonia and was struggling to breathe. The loyal dog was immediately hospitalized and sedated for medical examination, during which his heart tragically stopped. After four days on life support, Hamilton made the difficult decision to put Roscoe down.
In an emotional Instagram post, Hamilton expressed his deep gratitude and honor for the time he shared with Roscoe, calling him "a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend." The driver had adopted Roscoe in 2013, during his transition to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, and the dog had been a constant presence throughout Hamilton's most successful period in the sport, which included six world championship titles.
Roscoe had become a beloved celebrity in the F1 paddock, accumulating over 1.4 million followers on his Instagram account, "@roscoelovescoco," which also paid tribute to his late sister, Coco, who passed away in 2020. The two English Bulldogs had been inseparable companions, traveling to races together until Coco's untimely death.
Hamilton had expressed his desire to bring Roscoe to as many races as possible in the twilight of the dog's life, as he was aware of the breed's health challenges. A recent study had found that English Bulldogs in the UK are more than twice as likely to have a health issue in a single year compared to other dog breeds.
The loss of Roscoe is undoubtedly a heartbreaking moment for Hamilton and the entire Formula 1 community, who had grown to love the charismatic canine over the years. Roscoe's legacy as a loyal companion and beloved figure in the sport will undoubtedly live on.
