Pier's Master House to Become Holiday Let
23 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Campaigners seek to rent out pier's master house for holiday income.
- £40,000 appeal launched in August for essential pier repairs.
- Property deemed unsuitable for permanent residence due to location.

A novel fundraising strategy is emerging for one of Wales' cherished piers, with campaigners aiming to convert its master's house into a holiday let. The Friends of Bangor Garth Pier (FBGP) in Bangor, Gwynedd, are pursuing this plan to generate revenue for vital repairs and the safeguarding of the Grade II listed structure.
This follows an appeal launched in August by FBGP, which sought £40,000 to complete urgent work on the pier. The application to Gwynedd council seeks approval to establish the dwelling, situated at the pier's entrance, as a short-term holiday accommodation.
The property has been identified as unsuitable for permanent residency, citing its proximity to frequent pier events and a lack of amenities like a garden or dedicated parking. However, FBGP believes this funding model could simultaneously enhance tourism and provide an distinctive lodging experience for visitors.
