- The tiny primate has a distinctive tuft of hair and expressive eyes.

A newborn black crested mangabey, affectionately nicknamed Sullivan or Sully by supporters, has become a social media sensation for his striking appearance. Born at the Chattanooga Zoo several weeks ago, this tiny primate is already drawing significant attention.
The little monkey's arrival is particularly meaningful as black crested mangabeys are a vulnerable species. Native to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, they face threats from habitat loss and deforestation. The Chattanooga Zoo is one of a select few AZA-accredited institutions in the United States that participates in the care of these primates.
Weighing just 1.75 pounds at his initial weigh-in, the infant mangabey is noted for his expressive eyes and a distinctive tuft of hair atop his head, which has earned him comparisons to a miniature rock star. He spends his time clinging to his mother, Suzy, while his father, Sam, provides protection.
This birth is a milestone for conservation efforts, highlighting the importance of zoological institutions in preserving endangered species. Visitors can see the new arrival in the Gombe Forest area of the zoo.
