Autism-Friendly Beaches Resort Transforms Caribbean Vacation for Family

In August 2025, the Fuller family traveled to the Caribbean island of Turks and Caicos, staying at the Beaches resort to experience its renowned autism program. As the world's only resort with an Advanced Certified Autism Centre accreditation, Beaches has equipped its frontline staff with specialized training to support autistic guests.

The resort's Jamaican manager, Kayanne Ajarie, explains that this training covers sensory awareness, motor skills, communication, and social skills. Childcare staff, including the "buddies" who provide one-on-one care, have also obtained additional qualifications from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).

For the Fuller family, this specialized care proved transformative. Their 13-year-old son, Eddie, who was diagnosed with autism, sensory processing disorder, and demand avoidance at age seven, had previously been unable to attend kids' clubs due to the noise. However, at Beaches, he was able to explore the resort's amenities with the support of his dedicated buddy.

The family navigated the resort's vast array of dining and activity options, finding quiet spaces and customized menus to suit Eddie's needs. While they encountered some challenges, such as the noise on a ferry tour, the Fullers were ultimately able to enjoy a memorable Caribbean vacation tailored to their son's requirements.
