Andrew Lloyd Webber, the renowned composer, has shared his journey as a recovering alcoholic, detailing his commitment to attending daily Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. These meetings occur regardless of his location, whether in London, Hampshire, or New York. Lloyd Webber initially announced his sobriety in 2016, even selling a significant portion of his valuable wine collection. However, he confessed to secretly resuming drinking after 18 months, a period he described as 'white-knuckling' without support, fearing a decline in his creativity.

Realizing the severity of his situation last year, Lloyd Webber recognized that sobriety was transformative. He acknowledged that his drinking was not a secret, as it profoundly affected his family, with his wife experiencing distress. He has found solace and camaraderie in AA meetings, noting the equalizing atmosphere and the unexpected friendships formed. This period of renewed sobriety has also enhanced his productivity, inspiring him to work on two new musicals.

Further demonstrating his commitment to recovery and philanthropy, Lloyd Webber is set to auction his remaining wine collection at Christie's between April 22 and May 6. The proceeds, estimated at £300,000, will be donated to the Music in Secondary Schools Trust. This personal revelation follows closely on the heels of his younger brother Julian Lloyd Webber's announcement of undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.
