An iconic Alton Towers swan boat, a familiar sight in a Staffordshire Moorlands village for over 15 years, has been successfully returned to its community. The boat's departure last March left locals devastated, as it was considered a cherished landmark visible from the main road.
Jenny Walker, determined to restore this piece of local history, embarked on a difficult quest to find a replacement. She discovered that former Alton Towers swan boats had become highly collectible, making them hard to acquire.
Walker's persistence led her to Zac Humpage, licensee of the Lion Bar & Club in Walsall, who had owned a swan boat for seven years. Initially reluctant to sell his prized possession, which he had repurposed as a performance stage, Humpage was moved by Walker's dedication to bringing the swan back to its home for the community.
Despite his eventual agreement to sell, Humpage expressed he would miss the swan, hinting at a future effort to find a replacement for his own collection. The return of the swan boat was celebrated by the community, with passing lorries tooting horns as it was winched into place, ready to be treasured for its nostalgic value.
