- These bottles fit through letterboxes and are lighter than glass.
- The design aims to reduce carbon footprint and is fully recyclable.

Aldi has launched an innovative wine bottle design featuring slimline plastic containers, prompting varied reactions from consumers and experts. Wine connoisseur Candace Strickland highlighted the bottles' sustainability, noting they are made from recycled plastic and can be recycled again. She pointed out their space-saving benefits, fitting 15 plastic bottles where seven glass ones would go, and their significantly lower carbon footprint.
These new bottles are also lighter, weighing 25-30% of standard glass bottles, and are designed to fit through letterboxes. Strickland emphasized that the wine inside remains unaffected in taste and quality. The bottles are produced in Australia by Packamama, a company focused on eco-friendly packaging solutions.
Consumer feedback on social media shows a split, with some appreciating the sustainability and practicality, especially for events like picnics and festivals. However, others express concerns about microplastics and a preference for traditional glass bottles, citing aesthetics and perceived quality. Aldi stated its commitment to offering greener products with enhanced functionality, while Packamama CEO Santiago Navarro lauded the partnership for advancing sustainable wine packaging.
