Gaston Livery Stable in Aiken, South Carolina, will host a special event on June 27 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The fireworks-free gathering, scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m., promises a variety of attractions for attendees of all ages. The celebration will feature food trucks, various vendors, and demonstrations of 1770s-era blacksmithing and wood-carving.
Attendees can also look forward to live music from the Columbia-based band Carolina Bluegrass Style, performing from 6 to 9 p.m. The event includes a traditional watermelon seed-spitting contest and other kid-friendly activities. For a small fee, visitors can try their luck at a dunking booth with local personalities, including Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer and Mayor Teddy Milner.
The historic Gaston Livery Stable, dating back to 1893, will provide the backdrop for this patriotic celebration. The venue itself holds historical significance as a former full-service livery stable and features the United States' only operational carriage lift. The Aiken Volunteer Mounted Unit and Equine Rescue will also be present, adding to the festive atmosphere.
