With Navratri commencing this Sunday, Ahmedabad authorities are enforcing strict safety measures for the upcoming festivities. A total of 84 commercial garba organizers have applied for police permission, a process that now mandates a Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) as a prerequisite.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ashvin Chauhan confirmed that permissions are being granted promptly upon receiving fire clearance. Beyond commercial venues, the city anticipates approximately 1,300 street garbas, necessitating robust security and traffic control.
Ahmedabad Rural SP Om Prakash Jat reported over 840 permit applications, including those for major venues and residential societies. To manage the expected influx, city police have detailed a security and traffic plan. Traffic personnel will be stationed at key junctions until 3 am, supported by towing cranes.
An entry ban for heavy vehicles, dumpers, and luxury buses is in effect within city limits from 10 pm to 2 am, continuing through October 20. Police deployments will cover critical choke points to prevent congestion, especially on the SG Highway.
Safety measures include the deployment of 49 SHE teams to protect women at venues. The 181 helpline is active for emergencies. Authorities are also coordinating with rural police, employing breath analyzers for drunk driving checks and drug-testing kits. Warnings have been issued against fraudulent online passes, with cybercrime units monitoring for unauthorized photography and image circulation.
