22 Aug
Summary
- Adelaide Cottage, built in 1831, served as a royal retreat near Windsor Castle.
- Queen Victoria favored the cottage, even burying her beloved dog there.
- Kate Middleton and Prince William resided in the four-bedroom cottage before moving.

Adelaide Cottage, originally constructed in 1831, served as a royal retreat situated a mere half-mile from Windsor Castle. Architect Sir Jeffry Wyatville transformed a keeper's lodge into a summer house for Queen Adelaide, wife of King William IV, after whom it was named. The cottage, a four-bedroom property, also holds historical significance for Queen Victoria, who frequented it and even buried her spaniel, Dash, on its grounds.
In the summer of 2022, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton and Prince William, relocated to Adelaide Cottage from Kensington Palace. This move was partly motivated by a desire for more green space for their children and to be closer to Queen Elizabeth. However, in late 2025, the royal couple moved out of Adelaide Cottage to Forest Lodge, another residence within Windsor Great Park. This transition occurred after a period of significant personal events for the family.
