Summary
- New six-mile trail connects three nature reserves.
- Free all-terrain mobility scooters are available for hire.
- Trail funding comes from the Coastal Communities Fund grant.

A newly launched six-mile accessible trail in Silverdale, Lancashire, is providing unprecedented access to nature, with users reporting life-changing experiences. This route links three distinct nature reserves, offering individuals with reduced mobility the opportunity to explore landscapes they previously could not.
Key to this initiative is the free hire of three all-terrain mobility scooters, called trampers, available from RSPB Leighton Moss. These vehicles enable users to navigate varied terrain, including unsurfaced paths, for a truly off-road experience.
The project received funding from a grant by the Coastal Communities Fund, administered through the Morecambe Bay Partnership. The trail guides visitors through RSPB Leighton Moss, a vibrant reed bed habitat, then to Trowbarrow nature reserve, noted for its geology and wildflowers, and finally to Gait Barrows national nature reserve, showcasing exceptional limestone pavement.
Organizers emphasize the importance of universal access to nature for both physical and mental well-being. The trampers are crucial in allowing people to immerse themselves in the natural environment, experiencing its peace and beauty.
