90-Year-Old Artist Paints Caregivers as Thank You

Eva Lu Damianos, a 90-year-old artist, found a unique way to express her gratitude to the healthcare professionals who aided her recovery. After sustaining a broken leg in June, Damianos spent 10 weeks unable to put weight on her limb, which also prevented her from painting.
During her recuperation at Hanna Healthcare Center, Damianos photographed her caregivers with their permission. Once she returned home to Longwood at Oakmont, she began creating portraits for 18 of them. This project, completed in two months, allowed her to reconnect with her passion for art and give back.
The caregivers expressed profound appreciation for the unexpected and personal gifts. Nurse supervisor Diane Dudek noted the rarity of such gestures, stating, "no words can truly express how privileged I feel." Longwood at Oakmont recognized Damianos' achievement by exhibiting the artwork and hosting a reception.
