This prolonged misdirection prompted her to investigate the source of the problem.

Through diligent public record searches using the area code associated with the calls, she successfully identified Vanessa Crunkle. This investigation revealed that Vanessa was a real person employed at a community college near the user's hometown, and her union involvement was well-documented online. Crucially, this also led to an easily discoverable email address.

The discovery has presented the Reddit user with a moral quandary: whether to contact Vanessa directly to understand why her number was given out for so long, or to engage in a more retaliatory approach by spamming Vanessa's work email.
