Organ transplantation in India has seen remarkable progress, with Zydus Hospitals in Gujarat playing a pivotal role. Across its Ahmedabad and Vadodara centers, the hospital has achieved milestones with over 430 kidney transplants, 295 liver transplants, and 220 bone marrow transplants.
Zydus provides comprehensive care for kidney failure, with nephrologists and urologists managing all stages. Kidney transplants are offered at approximately 6.5 lakhs, a fraction of the cost in other major cities. The hospital also boasts a 50-bed dialysis unit in Ahmedabad and a dedicated unit in Vadodara.
The liver transplant program, led by experienced HPB surgeons, has completed over 295 procedures, including ABO-incompatible and simultaneous liver-kidney transplants. Adhering to India's THOTA act, these transplants involve living or cadaveric donors.
For bone marrow transplants, Zydus houses Gujarat's largest BMT unit, catering to both adult and pediatric patients with blood cancers and hematological disorders. Packages start from a nominal 4 lakhs, making it a leading center nationally.
Beyond these, Zydus Hospitals also performs cardiac transplants for end-stage heart failure patients. A dedicated post-transplant rehabilitation program ensures patient recovery through physiotherapy, dietary guidance, and psychological support.
Despite these advancements, India faces a critical shortage of deceased organ donors. Zydus emphasizes the importance of public awareness and family consent to bridge the gap between patients awaiting organs and available donors.
