A promising young life was cut short as 24-year-old Treyton "Trey" Lara died on Sunday after collapsing during the Portland marathon. Lara, a devoted youth pastor, had trained diligently for months leading up to the event.
Witnesses, including his wife Aundrey Shin-Lara, confirmed Lara appeared well just miles before his collapse. He had stopped to kiss his wife at mile 19, but by mile 20, he fell and went into cardiac arrest. Despite immediate medical attention, he could not be revived.
A GoFundMe page has been created to support Lara's family during this difficult time, which has already garnered close to $60,000 in donations. Friends and family remember him as a film lover, chef, and coffee enthusiast, just shy of his 25th birthday.
