Youth Heart Health Crisis: Experts Sound Alarm

Medical experts gathered in Vijayawada on Sunday, February 22, 2026, to address the alarming increase in heart conditions among the youth. Cardiologist A. Purnanand highlighted that lifestyle changes, poor diet, stress, and substance abuse are contributing factors, with cardiac cases rising significantly post-pandemic.
Dr. Purnanand stressed that a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, daily exercise, adequate sleep, and stress management, can prevent nearly 80% of heart diseases. He advised regular check-ups for individuals with hypertension and diabetes.
To facilitate early detection, the Save Young Heart Foundation, in collaboration with Praja Arogya Vedika, is conducting free heart screening camps for individuals aged 30 to 45. A book on heart health by Dr. Purnanand was also unveiled during the event attended by approximately 500 people.
