Yoga Boosts Male Fertility, Study Finds

Summary
- Yoga significantly improves sperm quality in infertile men.
- A 12-week yoga program reduced oxidative stress.
- Yoga may enhance fertility through multiple mechanisms.

Researchers have discovered that yoga can significantly improve sperm quality and reduce oxidative stress in men experiencing infertility. A 12-week structured yoga program, involving daily postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and relaxation techniques, was studied.
The intervention led to a notable decline in oxidative stress and DNA damage markers, with researchers observing improved sperm function. While a decrease in sperm DNA fragmentation was noted, longer practice (at least six months) may be required for statistically significant DNA quality improvements.
Yoga's beneficial effects are attributed to multiple mechanisms, including reduced stress hormones, enhanced antioxidant defense, improved blood flow to reproductive organs, and better mitochondrial integrity. This non-pharmacological approach is presented as a safe, accessible, and cost-effective adjunct therapy for male infertility management.
