Pop-up vaccine clinics are now available across Worcestershire, providing essential catch-up opportunities for missed MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) and HPV (human papillomavirus) immunizations. These clinics cater to residents who did not receive these jabs as part of their routine childhood vaccination schedule.
A specific clinic took place on Saturday at Stourport Sports Club, with further sessions planned throughout February at various locations across the county. Worcestershire is recognized for its strong performance in MMR vaccinations, with over 90% of children receiving both doses by age five.
Measles, a highly contagious disease, requires two MMR doses for full protection. The HPV vaccine, also offered, protects against common cancer-causing types of the virus. While over 73% of eligible young people in Worcestershire have received the HPV vaccine, some may have missed it due to various circumstances.
The catch-up HPV vaccine is free on the NHS for women aged 24 and under and men born after September 1, 2006, up until their 25th birthday. Appointments can be booked online, with additional clinics scheduled for February in Bromsgrove, Redditch, Droitwich, and Worcester.
