Beth Brown, Cindy Alcorn, Heather Valentie, and Terry Stark immediately intervened. They initiated CPR and utilized an automated external defibrillator (AED) when they discovered Simons had no pulse and was not responding. After several shocks, his pulse was restored.
Simons was subsequently transported to a local hospital by the Kettering Fire Department. Three months after the incident, he has made a full recovery and has returned to his passions, including playing tennis and his work as a university professor.
The Kettering Fire Department formally recognized the women's swift and effective intervention with citizen awards, highlighting their critical role in preventing a tragedy.
