A recent study highlights that a significant majority of women over 40 experience disrupted sleep, with 3:30 AM being the most common wake-up time. This phenomenon, dubbed 'Club 330,' affects nine in ten participants who wake at least once before 7 AM, often losing substantial sleep trying to fall back asleep.
Researchers identified several key reasons for these nighttime awakenings. The most prevalent cause, cited by 85% of respondents, is the need to use the toilet. Overheating or night sweats affect 47%, while 58% report racing thoughts about the next day. Hormonal shifts associated with perimenopause and menopause are also significant factors, alongside stress, pain, and mental health conditions.
Health experts explain that these disruptions can be linked to natural sleep cycles, with 3:30 AM possibly falling within a specific stage for those going to bed around 10:30 PM or 11 PM. As individuals age, urinary issues and pain also contribute to waking. The article stresses the fundamental importance of adequate sleep for cognitive function, physical repair, emotional balance, and protection against chronic diseases.
