In Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district, a 42-year-old woman suffered a dislocated jaw while attempting to eat a golgappa. The incident occurred when she opened her mouth excessively to bite into the popular street food, leaving her unable to close it. This unexpected condition necessitated immediate medical intervention.
The woman was initially taken to the District Joint Hospital, where doctors tried to reduce the dislocation without success. Due to the complexity of the case, she was subsequently referred to Chicholi Medical College for specialized treatment. Medical professionals indicated that extreme mouth opening during eating can unexpectedly lead to such jaw dislocations.
Experts explain that jaw lock, where the jaw becomes stuck in an open or closed position, can arise from various factors including ligament laxity or TMJ issues. While rare, such incidents highlight the importance of mindful eating and seeking professional advice for any jaw discomfort or immobility.
