Hangover vision? Woman loses eye to tumor
12 Sep
Summary
- Woman mistook tumor symptoms for hangover, lost an eye.
- A routine eye scan revealed a non-cancerous tumor.
- She underwent treatments before needing eye removal surgery.

Jade Windley, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, experienced blurry vision while watching a Beyoncé concert, initially attributing it to a hangover from drinking wine. A friend's suggestion led her to Specsavers for a routine eye exam in October 2022, where an optometrist detected an issue.
An urgent referral to the hospital revealed a non-cancerous tumor in her right eye. Following six eye injections, steroid injections, and radiotherapy in October 2025, Jade was informed of a second tumor. Devastatingly, she was told her eye would need to be removed.
Surgery to remove her eye took place on August 5, 2026. Jade now uses an ocular conformer and is awaiting a prosthetic eye. She has faced significant impacts on her confidence and well-being, including constant pain and anxiety. She also developed Charles Bonnet syndrome, causing hallucinations.
Jade has launched a GoFundMe to help fund prosthetic eyes and support her while she is unable to work. She hopes to raise awareness and encourage others to seek prompt medical attention for any eye-related concerns, emphasizing the importance of regular eye checks.
