In a devastating incident near Uthukuli in Tiruppur district, a young woman named Sasikala died from excessive bleeding following a failed home birth attempt on June 25th. She had chosen to deliver at home by following instructional videos found on YouTube, hoping for a natural birth after a previous Cesarean section.
Sasikala's decision, made with her husband and mother-in-law, disregarded professional medical supervision. During the attempted delivery, complications arose when the placenta failed to detach correctly. This led to severe and uncontrollable postpartum haemorrhage.
She was initially taken to a government hospital in Perundurai before being transferred to a private hospital in Coimbatore. While doctors managed to save the baby, Sasikala’s condition worsened, and she passed away on Sunday, June 28th. The Uthukuli police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The surviving newborn remains under close medical care.
