Men Age Slower With Wine, Women Don't
5 Apr
Summary
- Men drinking 200ml wine daily are biologically younger.
- Polyphenols in wine may explain the anti-aging effect.
- Women gain no biological aging benefit from wine consumption.

A recent study conducted in southern Italy suggests that moderate wine consumption may slow biological aging in men, but not in women. Researchers at LUM university analyzed data from 22,000 individuals, comparing their drinking habits with their biological age, which is determined by the physiological state of cells and organs.
The findings indicated that men consuming approximately 200ml of wine daily were biologically younger by about 0.4 years compared to their non-drinking counterparts. This effect is thought to be linked to polyphenols present in wine, known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Conversely, women showed no such benefits, a phenomenon doctors hypothesize stems from differences in alcohol metabolism and hormonal compositions. The study, published in the International Journal of Public Health, highlights wine's components rather than overall alcohol intake as a potential factor in male anti-aging.
