The World Health Organization (WHO) announced a substantial revision to its Ebola case count in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Tuesday. Initial projections of nearly 1,000 suspected cases have been drastically reduced to 116. As of the latest briefing, the DRC has recorded 321 confirmed Ebola cases and 48 confirmed deaths.
Uganda has also reported its own figures, confirming nine cases of the virus with one associated death. Six individuals have recovered from the illness to date. The WHO clarified that many initially suspected cases were ruled out after testing, identified as other diseases or minor ailments, leading to the significant fluctuation in suspected case numbers. Confirmed cases, however, are cumulative.
