The World Health Organization (WHO) has allocated $2 million from its Contingency Fund for Emergencies to support critical health initiatives in Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria. This funding is a direct response to the escalating crisis in the Middle East, which has led to substantial population displacement.
Lebanon will receive $1 million to enhance its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, bolster trauma care, improve disease surveillance, and procure necessary medical supplies. This investment aims to strengthen the nation's capacity to manage health emergencies effectively.
Iraq and Syria will each receive $500,000. These funds will support emergency coordination, mass-casualty management, the provision of essential medicines, health services for internally displaced persons, and community outreach programs. The WHO emphasizes the critical need to sustain frontline health workers and maintain vital services during this challenging period.
