West Northamptonshire Council has announced substantial enhancements to its adult social care services, responding to a previous 'requires improvement' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The council stated that waiting times for services like occupational therapy and support equipment are now falling significantly. This progress is attributed to the 'Becoming Better Together' program.
Data indicates a marked reduction in the number of individuals awaiting occupational therapy, decreasing from 420 to 156. Furthermore, the backlog for initial assessments has shrunk from 310 to just 72. The proportion of residents receiving a care and support review within the stipulated 12 months has also risen from 56% to 75%.
Improvements have also been implemented in safeguarding processes, workforce development, hospital discharge procedures, and support for carers. The cabinet member for adult social care expressed encouragement over these positive signs, emphasizing a continued focus on delivering expected improvements and ensuring timely support for residents. A report detailing these changes will be presented to the cabinet on October 12.
This initiative marks a concerted effort to strengthen services and ensure residents receive prompt, safe, and effective assistance. The council remains committed to ongoing development in its adult social care provision.
