Fulton County Mosquitoes Carry West Nile Virus; Treatment Underway

Mosquitoes trapped in Fulton County have tested positive for the West Nile virus, leading to immediate treatment efforts in Roswell. On Monday, the city announced that mosquito traps located at Roswell Area Park and Garrard Landing Park yielded positive results for the virus.
In response, the county's mosquito control contractor conducted treatment within a quarter-mile radius of the affected traps on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. These treatments, lasting about an hour each night, are deemed safe for people and pets.
This recent detection comes shortly after similar positive tests were confirmed in insects from four other Fulton County locations, including Orme Park and Welcome All Park. All previously identified sites have also undergone treatment.
West Nile virus, first identified in the U.S. in 1999, can cause symptoms ranging from fever and headache to severe neurological illness. Health officials recommend protective measures such as using EPA-registered insect repellent and avoiding outdoor activity during peak mosquito hours.
