24 Jan
Summary
- Fourteen hospices in the West Midlands received £2.1m in government funding.
- The funds are designated for essential upgrades, repairs, and facility improvements.
- Government is committed to transforming palliative care and ending a postcode lottery.

Fourteen hospices located throughout the West Midlands have collectively been awarded over £2.1 million in government funding. This substantial financial injection is intended to cover crucial upgrades and essential repairs across their facilities. Funds will also support enhancements to outdoor spaces and vital IT equipment.
Minister for Care, Stephen Kinnock, confirmed the allocation, highlighting its importance for improving patient environments. Several hospices received notable amounts, including Acorns Children's Hospice with over £402,700 and Severn Hospice with nearly £300,000.
This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to transform palliative care. An additional £125 million in capital investment for hospices nationwide and a pledge of £80 million over three years specifically for children's hospices underscore this commitment. The aim is to eliminate the 'postcode lottery' in healthcare access.
