In April, Brazilian customs agents made a significant discovery when inspecting a tourist bus arriving from Paraguay. Hidden within jars of dulce de leche, they found hundreds of vials containing tirzepatide, the active ingredient in the popular weight-loss drug Mounjaro.
This discovery led to one of Brazil's largest seizures of weight-loss medications, with the total shipment amounting to over 2,500 vials, according to the Federal Revenue Service. This event is not an isolated incident.
Agents along the Paraguay-Brazil border have been encountering increasing numbers of slimming drugs, specifically those belonging to the GLP-1 receptor agonist class. These pharmaceuticals are being found concealed in a variety of unexpected items during routine inspections.
