MHRA Approves Single-Dose Wegovy Pen for Obesity
14 Apr
Summary
- New single-dose Wegovy pen approved for adults with obesity.
- The 7.2mg dose now administered in one injection.
- This change aims to simplify weight loss treatment protocols.

A significant regulatory update by the MHRA is set to change how thousands in the UK administer weight loss medication. Effective Tuesday, April 14, 2026, a new single-dose 7.2mg semaglutide (Wegovy) pen has been approved for use.
This new pen allows adult patients diagnosed with obesity, defined by a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30kg/m² or higher, to receive their maximum weekly dose in a single injection. This approval streamlines the treatment process, moving away from the previous requirement of administering three separate 2.4mg doses on the same day.
The updated administration method applies specifically to weight loss and weight management for obese adults. It does not extend to overweight patients with a BMI below 30kg/m², nor to those using Wegovy for reducing heart problem risks. The MHRA will continue monitoring Wegovy's safety and effectiveness, encouraging users to report any suspected side effects.
