Walmart Frozen Berries Recalled Over E. coli Fears

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall for a specific lot of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend sold at Walmart. This precautionary measure is due to potential contamination with Escherichia coli O145:H28 (E. coli O145).

The recalled product, sold in 10-ounce bags, includes strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. It was distributed to Walmart stores across 16 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.

This recall is an expansion of a prior recall initiated by Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur for similar frozen berries. Consumers who have purchased the affected Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend should not consume it. Instead, they should dispose of the product or return it to Walmart for a complete refund.

Although the previous recall of Publix berries was linked to a multi-state E. coli outbreak that sickened 12 individuals, no illnesses have been associated with the Great Value berries. The company is taking this action out of an abundance of caution based on traceback information.

Individuals who may have consumed the recalled berries are advised to monitor for E. coli symptoms, which can include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. Most healthy individuals recover within a week, but vulnerable populations like children and the elderly may face more severe complications.
