Vuyyuru Diarrhea Outbreak: 19 Cases Reported
23 Aug
Summary
- Nineteen people contracted severe diarrhea symptoms between August 19 and August 23.
- A state medical team visited Vuyyuru to assess the situation and reported to the Health Minister.
- Water contamination is suspected as a major factor in the outbreak.

As of August 23, 2026, Vuyyuru has reported 19 cases of severe diarrhea, with symptoms appearing between August 19 and August 23. The affected individuals, aged between 40 and 60, were primarily located in Wards 5, 7, and 9 of the municipality.
Fifteen patients were admitted to the Vuyyuru Community Health Centre, with nine currently undergoing treatment and six having been discharged, all in stable condition. Following directions from Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, a state-level medical team conducted a field assessment and submitted a preliminary report.
A Rapid Response Team from Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada, also investigated the affected areas. Health Commissioner K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu has directed continued monitoring and a house-to-house survey by ASHAs and ANMs.
Residents have raised concerns about water quality. Preliminary assessments suggest contamination of a community drinking-water source as a likely factor, possibly combined with the consumption of outside food. The municipality has begun chlorinating water sources and is providing alternative water through tankers.
